Why would I buy an electric bicycle when I have a regular bicycle? What's the use?
Well, there are many reasons, but here are a few:
Get to places faster and easier than on a regular bicycle. Depending on how you use Spark, you can travel at an average speed of 30 km/hour or faster effortlessly.
Don't sweat it. Even though you can ride lightning fast, it will be so effortless that you won’t feel like you have to take a shower after the ride.
Climbing hills is a piece of cake... No seriously, it is.
Safety. You can get through an intersection with more stability and quickness because an electric bicycle is easier to get going from a standstill position.
Less pressure. The assistance provided by the electric motor reduces the pressure on your joints as you pedal. This means there will be less stress on your knees and hips, reducing pain especially for people with joint disorders.
Ditch the car. The convenience, the ease of operation and the speed of an electric bicycle make it an ideal alternative to an automobile, as opposed to a regular bicycle.
Do your bicycles have regenerative braking?
No, our bicycles don’t have regenerative braking, and for a good reason. Regenerative braking may be useful for large vehicles (such as cars) as the change in momentum created by braking may create significant energy that can be restored to the battery. Our bicycles come equipped with a battery that will carry you up to 70 km on a single charge, more than you’ll ever need for a daily commute. Even though regenerative braking can extend the range of the battery by 5-10%, it also adds several hundred dollars to the cost.
What is the range I can get from a single charge?
The biggest determinant to the bicycle range on a single charge is whether you pedal or just use the throttle without pedaling. Shocke Bikes champions combining the power of human pedaling with electric power; therefore, we will list the expected ranges when you do either. With relaxed pedaling, you can expect about 70 km on a single charge, and often times you might go even further. If you only use the throttle, you can expect our bicycles to have a 35 km range. Range will also be impacted by other factors, such as battery capacity, hills, wind resistance and your size.
How long does it take to charge the battery?
A fully depleted lithium ion battery will take 4-6 hours to recharge. It will take less time if the battery has a partial charge. Charging can be done directly while the battery is inside the frame, or it can be conveniently removed and charged in the comfort of your home, in a café, or wherever there is a power source.
How many charges can I get out of a battery?
Our lithium-ion batteries will provide approximately 1000 “full” charges. Our batteries have no memory effect, so if you recharge them when they are only 50% depleted, that counts as only half a charge. The amount of charges will also be impacted by factors such as temperature.
How fast can your bicycles go?
If you are pedaling with motor assistance, you can go as fast as you are able to pedal it and easily reach speeds of 35+ km/hour. You can go up to 32 km/hour by just using the throttle without pedaling.
Can I ride your electric bicycles as regular bicycles, without the electric power?
Yes, and it is very easy to switch back and forth. For example, you may use the power only when you are going up hills and turn it off for level ground and downhill riding to save battery power.
Do I have to pedal?
No. our bicycles can operate by simply turning the throttle without pedaling. However, in order to get exercise and extend the range of the battery, we highly recommend that you pedal as well.
Do I need a license?
No. The motor is programmed to go no more than 32 km/hour on throttle mode alone (no pedaling), and therefore does not require a license to operate.
What about leaving your bicycles out in the rain?
The motor and battery are adequately sealed from the rain, and are thus protected.
Is the battery replaceable?
Most definitely. They are very easy to take out and swap with a new one. You can buy a new battery from here.
Will the bike fit me?
Each of our bike product pages has a bike fit calculator that can be found near the specifications. Enter you weight, height, and leg length, and it will let you know whether or not our bike will fit you.
